CFGN runs four seasonal gatherings a year where growers meet to garden together, share skills, have lunch, see different food projects, hear news and discuss ways to act together on relevant issues.
It is also an opportunity to chat to food growers from CFGN member projects and find out more about how the network functions.
After Organiclea kindly hosted the summer gathering in the Lea Valley, this autumn we will be heading south of the Thames to visit, support and learn about May Project Gardens which fuses food-growing, youth work and community empowerment into a very inspiring project.
You can read more about the May Project Gardens in an interview with co-founder KMT here, and support their current crowdfunder here.
Special guest from Oakland, USA- Aaron Ableman will be coming to share work and music at the end of the gathering
The plan for the day is:
11.30am – 1pm: Practical gardening session
An opportunity to work together in the garden, share skills and participate in timely tasks at May Project Gardens.
1-2pm: Lunch + Tour
People are invited to bring food/harvests to share which will contribute to a lunch with Caribbean blends on the menu cooked by Community Centred Knowledge and Granville Community Kitchen.
2-5pm: News + Discussions
A chance to hear news from community gardens across London, and action ways to support eachothers’ work.
Currently a focus for CFGN is ‘Access to Land’ and finding ways to secure long-term tenureship/ownership for community food projects in London.
5pm – : Aaron Ableman
Presentation and music from award-winning author and musician Aaron Ableman from Oakland, USA (Co-founder of BALANCE Edutainment)
